Palazzo del Capitanio

The Palazzo del Capitanio so called because, under Venice, it was the seat of the Captain of Verona - which was the result of the amalgamation of a series of tower-houses, the facade being redesigned in the 16th century. There is a fine portal, the work of Sanmicheli and a magnificent courtyard distinguished by the elegant Loggia Barbaro and the Por-ta Bombardiera (1687), so called owing to its highly original decoration which consists of copies of weapons and symbols of war.
