Corso
Castelvecchio
Built
in the 1st century B.C. by the architect Vitruvius (the
famous author of treatises on art) for the Gavi family,
it was knocked down at the end of the 18th century to allow
for the passage of Napoleonic troops. it was rebuilt in
its original form in 1932 at Castelvecchio, that is in a
different site from the previous one, which corresponded
to the present-day Corso Cavour. This honorary monument
is made up of a single high fornix surmounted by a gable.
At the sides rises a pair of robust and tall pilasters containing
a niche. The internal vault is covered with a beautiful
lacunar ceiling.
